Finding the Right Plan for Me

If you are a runner and have looked for a distance running training plan, you know that there are several out there to choose from.  I have pinned quite a few on my Pinterest page over the last year or so.  Each one seems to have its benefits and I can usually tweak them a bit to fit my schedule.

Then, I found this one:

It is just perfect for my weekly personal schedule.  I can get my runs in on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning before I go to work because those are the days that I don't work at the gym.  The stretch and strength on Mondays and the cross training on Wednesdays I can either do at home or do at the gym.  I really like that Fridays and Saturdays are rest and recovery days because those tend to be days when I want to do stuff with my family.  The Sunday long distance runs are perfect because I can get up and go for a morning run to finish my weekends and get ready for the new week.

I am hoping to run at least two half marathons this year so I need to start training now and building up my strength and stamina.  My half marathon isn't until the fall but if I start now, I will be good to go by September, October and November.  I can't imagine doing a half marathon in the heat of the summer so I decided to wait until the cooler temps of fall are here.

It is always hard to find the time for running and exercising with our busy family schedule but as the school year winds down and we have more free time, I can make the time for more running.

Have you found the perfect training schedule that fits your needs?

  1. Congrats on finding the right program for you!! I often struggle with making training programs fit my crazy schedule and have let it stop me from going for longer distances. I'll have to check this one out :)

    1. Yeah, me too. There have been many times in the past when I couldn't do my long runs, it just wouldn't work out. Glad this should work out.

  2. That sounds like a really good plan! Including doing a race in the fall! I've done summer halfs before but always seemed to luck out with the weather - it rained both times and kept me fairly cool!

    1. My half marathon last year was nice, cold in the beginning...like 30 degrees but the high was maybe 53 so it was perfect and I never felt hot.

  3. I'm training for an Ironman now, so I have definitely had to make adjustments to my life in order to fit the training in, BUT while I haven't found the perfect training plan I have gotten very good at maximizing my time and knowing what workouts can go together vs. which ones should be on separate days. I am looking forward to getting my coaching cert so I can help others create their perfect training plans! Glad to hear you found yours!

    1. Oh that sounds good.....I debate on whether or not I should look into getting certified to do something whether it is to teach classes or coach or something different. I would love to be a spin teacher...one of my favorite classes!

  4. I really like the one on the Run Disney page (Jeff Galloway I think?). It's perfect for me because you have 3 runs a week and then one of the runs alternates between a long run and speed work so I don't feel like I'm getting burnt out. I've had a lot of success with it! I'm excited that you've found a plan that works for you! :-)

    1. Oh awesome, I don't know if I've ever seen that one. I did a Nike one to train for a 10k and it had speed work in it. I liked that one too. It's nice that there are so many options out there for us!
